Video: A flight in the country

Weekend before last, I took a little flight out in the country, kind of going toward Brenham, then kind of going toward Bellville, but mostly just flying around. One of the things I did that was new with my Kolb was, I clamped my video camera to the plane and captured all 1 hour and 10 minutes of the flight!

But rather than make you suffer through all 70 minutes, I pushed the “fast forwardâ€? button in a few places (and kept it on for a while) so that, now, the video only take about 20 minutes. That’s still a long time unless you’re really interested in seeing it, but I’m embedding it below in case you are.

I also need to warn you that, the little bumps and wing waggles that occur during a normal flight in the middle of the day, result in the camera also getting bumped. When shown at normal speed, they are noticeable but tolerable. But when I revved up the video, those bumps became pronounced. If you get motion sick even at the thought of something moving, then you will definitely want to pass on viewing the fast parts.

If you’re at all interested in the still shots I took on this same flight, then you can view them at my Texas-Flyer.com web site.

If you’re curious about flying, then you might want to watch the whole thing… I put in captions so that you get an idea of what’s involved in the taxi, the run-up, the radio work, the take-off and then on the return, the pattern work, the radio work and the landing. Also, there are a few comments throughout about what I’m seeing. It’s not going to win me any awards, but I think it conveys what a flight in a Light Sport Aircraft is all about: flying low and slow and seeing the countryside. But, of course, I’m limited in how I convey it by a tiny view through a moderate-quality video camera… in real life, it’s spectacular!
