What company did the conversion with the Generac engine? Do you have a web address? Do you know what HP it puts out? What is the exact name of the Generac engine?

    Toby —

The firm that does the conversion is Valley Engineering.

Their site says the Big Twin puts out 40HP peak, and 32HP continuous. By comparison, the Rotax 447 puts out about 42HP, and the 503 outputs about 48HP.

As far as I know, “Generac” is the manufacturers name. I’m not 100% sure, but this web page seems to be the source engine. Valley Engineering does the conversion for the Kolb, the Backyard Flyer, Legal Eagle, airboats and other applications. My friend who had it done has nothing but good things to say about the firm, and I can tell you first-hand that the conversion looks really good!

    Thanks Robert…

I was thinking about using one for my gyro but I don’t think it will be enough power. My gyrobee (actually honeybee) will fly with a 447 but it is a bit sluggish, anything less probably would be a little dangerous to fly. I will have to stick with the 503 that I bought for it, I just need a belt drive for it.

I know you do the website for the local PRA chapter, ever though about getting a gyro?

PS, I have followed your stories ever since you put them up on your Texas Flyer site, great reading!

    Thanks,

    Toby

How cool is that? 2 GPH is outstanding. so his climb has suffered a bit, but I’m sure he’s enjoying his extended range, and reliablity. Two thumbs up on thos conversion. This was a great blog post! Keep ’em coming.
